(I hope!) Don't ask what the problem was, as I honestly couldn't say! I will actually put this down to Windows, and that for some reason Notes wasn't querying my hosts file before DNS..... Still, very frustrating, but have learnt loads regarding network problem solving and a few new linux commands! Fixed! (I hope!)
