A harmonica, a Zoom call, and a deceptively deep question about peace.

How was your Friday?

Picture the scene:

A Friday morning Zoom call with the Askara Solutions crew.
You’re welcomed by an Indian flute.
And we kick off to a harmonica. Live!

The agenda?
Connecting our judgments and triggers to feelings and needs.

Non-violent communication, here we go!

Our facilitator Bart Landstra posed a question that has stayed with me all day: “What brings us peace?”

Hearing everyone’s responses and how they resonated was fascinating.

But what struck me most was how it prompted a deeper reflection on what being at peace actually means. How much of what we think brings us peace is really just distraction from other things in our lives?

I find joy in many things. Creating, building, doing. I love being outdoors, physical exercise, sport.

But do they bring me peace?

Going deeper, I find peace in the combination of solitude and connection with the ocean.

Listening to the waves on the beach. Or better yet, on or in the water, sailing, surfing, diving.

Those moments surfing, sat on the board, feeling the waves pass beneath me, my focus on the horizon. Present.

Thank you Bart, both for the fantastic session, and for prompting a beautiful reflection to close the week.

I’m curious. What brings you peace?
