Linux elegance and aesthetics

In terms of elegance and aesthetics, Microsoft and Apple are many years ahead of Linux.

Ignoring Mac OSX for now, I’m not sure what this is being based upon. I’ve been using Ubuntu since 5.04, and in its current form I’d say it is every bit as elegant and aesthetic as Windows XP.

I’m not sure Mr Zachary is being fair calling the Linux OS “scrappy”. Is he talking about the OS, the UI, the applications, or all three? Comparing just the Linux OS with Windows, which one would likely justify the description given proper investigation? The UI, if comparing Gnome and KDE with Windows Vista, he has a point, but if we don’t need or want the effects, its a much closer call. And as for the applications, I think we’ve all had to use some pretty poorly designed UIs for applications running on Windows, right? (Mentioning no names! ;-))

    Les deseo suerte a estos fabricantes como Lenovo que pretenden vender portátiles con Lunix, pero espero que no pase como con el Vista, la gente lo primero que hace es borrar el Vista y instalar XP.
    Nos guste o no, Bill Gates sigue siendo el amo del mercado.
    He visto empresas intentando cambiar a Linux y han fracasado en el intento.
    En mi caso, hice mis pinitos con redhat, pero me parecia que estaba perdiendo el tiempo, aunque en mi empresa se ha extendido Linux, yo no lo veo en los clientes, por lo menos en los que yo me muevo, puede haber algún servidor con Linux, como Firewall, Relay SMPTP, pero las estaciones de trabajo son Windows.
    Hay muchas empresas invirtiendo y apostando por Lunix, como por ejemplo en la que yo trabajo, pero en mi opinión a Linux todavia le falta algo, aunque yo no se muy bien que es.

    Hola Martín!

    Estoy completamente de acuerdo contigo, aunque creo que gente comprando estos portátiles van a querer el OS instalado. De momento no tenemos muchas opciones, por eso hay que hacer la “limpieza”!

    No me considero un experto con linux, pero tampoco me da miedo. Voy descubriendo cosas que tienen mucho sentido, o son muy fáciles de hacer que piensas “oof, como haría eso en Windows!?”

    Creo que cada vez el linux es mas fácil utilizar por parte de gente que no son “geeks”!
